March in south Shetland (2)

Shetland Wren – note the healthy growth of lichen on the wall

The steady creep of spring continues. Red-throated Divers have begun to return to the lochs (before they have finished moulting), and numbers of Kittiwakes and auks are increasing.

Early migrants have included Goldcrests and Linnets.

Black-throated Divers are scarce in Shetland, so it was pleasing to see this one in Quendale Bay which seems to be a favoured site.
