March into April

Scandinavian Rock Pipit (probably) – strikingly different from the swarthy olive local petrosus

At the end of March a period of easterlies brought a scattering of migrants including this presumed littoralis, and the first true summer migrants in the form of Wheatear and Chiffchaff.

Other birds of note included Green-winged Teal and Hen Harrier (which is scarce in Shetland).

Then spring stalled: a period of westerlies with no great reach has temporarily halted migration. We look forward to a change in the weather.
