April into May

Turnstone, Shetland

Since my last post highlights have included two encounters with Orcas (Killer Whales) near Mousa, an interesting Glaucous x Herring Gull hybrid, a latish Iceland Gull (below) which I was watching as the flock of gulls it was with panicked and drew my attention to a White-tailed Eagle over Geosetter. The eagle, which had arrived on Shetland two days earlier, then headed south and was seen on Fair Isle about 2.5 hours later. A flock of 14 Greenland White-fronts on Bressay was also notable.

However, the last day of April brought perhaps the greatest rewards as an arrival of migrants on south-east winds included Ring Ouzel and a female Subalpine Warbler (again at Geosetter). And now it’s May…
