Killer Whale, Scatness

Since my post in early May, highlights have included more sightings of Killer Whales (Orcas), Turtle Dove, Montagu’s Harrier from the house, the Arctic Redpoll which I found at Quendale, 2 Marsh Harriers (including one found dead on Skerries), and Red-necked Phalaropes which have returned during the past week.

Butterflies have appeared in the form of 2 Large Whites at Ireland on 21st and Red Admiral at Toab on 26th.

As the number of migrants has dwindled, many local breeding birds already have clutches or young. Notable amongst these have been Red-throated Divers and this Eider which would have allowed us to touch her:
